A new BYD pickup truck has surfaced through a design patent published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on October 23, hinting at the brand’s plans to expand its Shark lineup.
The patent gives a clear look at BYD’s next lifestyle-oriented pickup — a model likely to sit below the Shark 6 as an entry point into the series.
The images reveal a unibody pickup with a bold and futuristic design language that still carries the distinct identity of the Shark family. The exterior features strong character lines, a vertical taillight setup connected by a sleek LED strip, and a black textured rear bumper.

The pickup’s proportions and short bed further hint at a unibody construction. Unlike heavy-duty work trucks, the new BYD pickup adopts a short cargo bed — signaling its focus on lifestyle use rather than commercial hauling.
Interestingly, the design shows two charging ports, one on each side of the body. This detail strongly suggests that BYD will offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, likely featuring its well-known Dual Mode (DM) system.

This setup combines a high-output electric motor with a compact petrol engine, extending range while maintaining strong efficiency.
While BYD has yet to reveal official specifications, reports from Chinese media indicate the model could share platforms or components with the BYD Song Plus crossover, given the similarities in front-end styling and body panels.
